My mind was blown the first time I heard this riddim circa 2003-04. The Mad Coolie riddim is the "love-child" of the Mad Instruments & Coolie Dance riddims.
Here is the "fyah man" Capleton with "Killing Time":

RIP Steely (Steely & Clevie)
2009 has been a crazy year in the music world. One of dancehall's legends has just passed away.
from Radiojamaica.com:
Wycliffe Johnson, popularly known as Steely of the dancehall reggae production duo, Steely and Clevie, has died.
RJR News is receiving information that Steely died on Tuesday morning in a New York Hospital from complications following a heart attack. Our news centre understands that Steely was recuperating from Tuberculosis and kidney related problems. Steely and Clevie have worked with artistes such as The Specials, Gregory Peck, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Sean Paul and No Doubt. Steely debuted as a keyboardist with Sugar Minott's Youth Promotion collective in the 1970s. Steely and Clevie first played together at Lee "Scratch" Perry's Black Ark Studios during the late 1970s. In 1986, the duo was the house band at King Jammy's Studio, which became the centre point of late-1980s reggae, by which time Steely & Clevie were established production leaders with an immense slew of 12-inch and dub singles. The duo formed the Steely & Clevie label in 1987 . |
Steely & Clevie produced some of the biggest dancehall tracks of all time, two of which are Dawn Penn's "No No No (You Don't Love Me)", & "Murder Dem" by Ninja Man.
RIP.

Here I Go Again.
I don't know it was briefly watching Chris Brown on CNN's Larry King last night, but I thought about Rihanna's first record. Not to say her more recent releases are not good, she has become very successful and I'm not gonna knock her hustle.
Her first record, Music of the Sun, had some overlooked gems on it, one being this sweet one-drop cut "Here I Go Again".
I wouldn't mind hearing more material from her like this in the future.

RIP DJ AM.
Not new news, but the DJ community lost one of it's best this past Friday. AM was an innovator, trend setter, and stood out predominantly in this vast industry.
RIP.
RIP.
